Finding Your Future: Workplace Essentials
Ardella’s House offers this free 6-week program to provide employability skills for first time job seekers and those looking to re-enter the workforce, including justice-involved men and women. At the conclusion of the program students will receive a Workplace Essentials Certificate acknowledging they have acquired the skills needed to not only re-enter the workforce but become successful employees.

CURRICULUM
WEEK ONE: Understanding the Workplace
After getting to know the instructor and other classmates, students will learn the importance of getting to know their co-workers, company policies and procedures and organizational structure once they are employed. Students also learn strategies for overcoming stigma in the workplace, self-confidence and self-advocacy skills.
WEEK TWO: Computer Skills for the Workplace
This almost exclusively hands-on class teaches students to use the Internet, Google email, search the web and use basic computer input and output devices. We also cover the basic Word, Excel and PowerPoint software programs used in business and health fields.
WEEK THREE: Employment Preparation
This class will help students prepare a resume, cover letter, use the internet to search for jobs, learn virtual and in person interview skills, and how to complete online and in person job applications.
WEEK FOUR: Communication Skills in the Workplace
In this session, students will learn effective communication techniques such as active listening and feedback; email etiquette and crafting clear and concise messages as well as interpersonal and teamworking skills such as how to manage relationships with supervisors and colleagues.
WEEK FIVE: Customer Service
This class will help students learn the importance of customer service and how it impacts their job. They will learn how to communicate effectively with customers, how to resolve conflicts, and how to handle difficult situations and people. They will also learn how time management skills relate to customer service.
WEEK SIX: Problem-Solving and Coping
In this session, students will learn how to solve problems quickly and make informed decisions. Students will also learn coping mechanisms that can help them manage stress and emotions and learn what to do (and where to get help) when they feel overwhelmed.
